In Pursuit

Someone used the term “in pursuit” the other day and it really resonated with me. So often I have people tell me that they want to do different work but they can’t afford to make a change. Or there is just too much going on in their life to make a change.
Listen, I get it. I am a full time mom who lives in one of the most expensive cities in the country and am trying to grow my own business. I get busy. I get worrying about money. I get it.
And so I don’t expect anyone to throw caution to the wind, quit their job and join the circus (unless it made sense for your life, I would think that was pretty cool). But I digress. What I mean to say is that what I want for myself and for everyone else is to be “in pursuit” for figuring out what we were made for. How are we contributing to the greater good in the world?
As I’m in the process of growing my business, I’ve recently have had to look into doing more consulting jobs on the side and I’ve struggled with ‘working for the man’ or not owning my own time. (Although truth be told my son currently owns my time. )
But I think this is actually a great exercise for me because I am right there with my clients. I am trying to figure out the balance of loving what I do and paying the bills. Even though my business has been growing leaps and bounds every month, life is expensive.
Often times when clients first meet with me I explain how I like to think of myself as the information booth at a train station. People come to me as they are just stepping off of a train (metaphorically speaking) that was going way too fast and they weren’t even sure where the train was headed or why they were on that train.
Then they meet with me and we chart out what path and what direction is right for them and I guide them to get on a different train where they are in pursuit. Because what I’m beginning to realize is that we are always in pursuit.
Something is always changing. But what’s important is that we’re on the right train, we may have to take a few detours but we’re headed in the right direction.
Together, we are all in pursuit.

And if you feel like you are on the wrong train and don’t know how to be “in pursuit” while keeping your job, check out some of my other pages on my blog where I help guide you on that.
My mission is to inspire others to find what they were made for.
